The mountain tour was great. No fighting cows but overwhelming views, thorough physical exercise (those hills we climbed were steep!) and total disconnection from the rest of the world. With plenty of room for deep conversations. I really enjoyed seeing Muriel and we both got quite nostalgic about the great time spent together in Tuscany during our exchange semester. Unfortunately, the weather didn't bear with us; clouds thickened and eventually decided to drop some rain while sudden waves of mist enwrapped the mountains. So we opted to not hike until the very top lake but chose a lower route and started to head back to St Luc.
Filled with a ton of new impressions and blessed with the insight that my musculature is not quite adapted yet to climbing Swiss mountains without aftereffects I hopped on the train to Geneva that took me across the most astonishing landscapes for entertaining two hours. If you ever get the chance to take the train from Sierre to Geneva go for it - it takes you through very different parts of French Switzerland, ranging from rustic mountains, medieval castles and sweeping vineyards in the beginning to glamorous villas and beautiful lake views along the shores of Lake Geneva.
In Geneva I met my friend Alexandra. She actually belongs to the part of the population who works in Geneva but lives in France, so we spent the evening in Ferney-Voltaire, a nice little town just across the border. Alex gave me a great guided tour of the town Voltaire had chosen to spend his last years in before we headed for apéro and dinner. Today will be dedicated to discovering Geneva and meeting Alex for a relaxed lunch on a Rhône terrace before hopping on a train to Paris tonight!
